1. Why does my unit give off a bad odor?

Your mini split may give off a bad odor....similar to dirty socks! It is caused by mold and bacteria on the evaporator

(indoor coil). It is called "dirty sock syndrome". A deep clean will fix this!

2. Will deep cleaning affect my warranty?

Most home owners do not realize, but, the warranty actually encourages an internal cleaning. Wording for warranties

generally sound as follows:

…(warranty) does not cover problems caused by dirty air filters, air flow obstruction in the indoor and outdoor unit

section of the product. Leaves, dirt or foreign objects blocking vents and coils, blocked condensate drains causing

water to leak from the product. Regular checks for clearance of obstructions or foreign matter are the owners

responsibility."

Obviously, cleaning the filters is not enough. A deep, thorough internal cleaning is a must!

3. Why does it seem my power bill has increased?

Dirty coils in your indoor (evaporator) or outdoor unit (condenser) will cause your unit to have to work harder. This

causes it to burn more energy. Add to that, you may find yourself turning the temperature and fan speed up, to

compensate for the lower performance. Again, the result? A higher utility/power bill!

4. I clean the filters myself, isn't that enough?

Regular cleaning of the filters is a must. However, dirt can and will accumulate deep inside your unit. Your interior unit

contains a barrel fan with up to 400 small fan blades. This barrel fan and the evaporator coil need attention, too! This

requires specialized equipment. We sanitize and clean the unit using special equipment and a non toxic,

environmentally friendly solution.

5. How often should I schedule a cleaning?

An annual cleaning is suitable for most home owners. However, there are factors to be considered individually. Do you

have pets? Smokers in the house? Is the unit in a kitchen? Is it located in a dusty area? (workshop or garage) Does

anyone in your home suffer from breathing disorders or allergies? It may be necessary to have a more frequent cleaning

scheduled.

Don't forget the outside unit! It is exposed to the elements, (leaves, dust, grass), meaning it, too, needs attention. If it

is dirty, it has to work harder...meaning you pay a higher utility bill!

6. How long does a deep clean take?

Generally, you need to allow 1.5-2 hours to clean both your indoor and outdoor unit.
